What the heck is “Medicaid Unwinding?”
Some quick background information:
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and extended Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) aid to millions of people. They called this the “Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Condition.”
The Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Condition ends on March 31st, 2023, and affects between 5 and 14 million people.
This ending of the Medicaid Continuous Enrollment process is called the “Unwinding of Medicaid Continuous Enrollment.”
If you are part of the 14 million people receiving Medicaid over the last few years thanks to this Continuous Enrollment. You need to arrange for health insurance – and quickly, because starting April 1st, 2023, you won’t have access to Medicaid health services.
