A recent CNN.com article detailed the recent successes of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as well as the approaching risk of losing coverage for many of those success stories due to the end of the pandemic’s national public health emergency.

Under the current administration, benefits of the Affordable Care Act were temporarily expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) under the reasoning of the COVID-19 pandemic. President Biden attempted to make these expanded benefits permanent with his Build Back Better Bill, but that has stalled in Congress.

If ARPA benefits end in mid-July 2022 without anything enacted to make the ACA and Medicaid portions permanent, millions could lose their health insurance coverage or see increases in their premiums on policies purchased through an ACA Marketplace.

This would be a huge setback to the gains made in recent years, with the uninsured rate in the country at a near record low of 8.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021.
